Supported and unsupported frames and content in InDesign.

There are three kinds of boxes and contents that the censhare Adobe plugin distinguishes.

Supported boxes with supported content

The content of such boxes can be administrated as an asset by censhare.

Examples: InCopy Story, picture, PDF, ... In such boxes also another asset of censhare can be placed. A supported special case is empty boxes.

Supported boxes with unsupported content

The content of such boxes does not exist for censhare (content=“unknown“ or content=“none“). However, an asset of censhare can be placed in such boxes. After that, the box has supported content.

Examples: Copy and paste a box in another box (frame in frame), or paste a group as an anchored text box, or a box with more than a picture as content, ...

Unsupported boxes

Unsupported boxes will be completely filtered. They are non-existent for censhare.

Examples: To copy a text out of Illustrator and to paste it into the InDesign Layout as a box or anchored box, or copy and paste a box in another box (frame in frame), TextOnPath in every form, ...

General Note: The goal of this is to support unknown content and unknown boxes insofar that they can be used in documents without interfering censhare. Unknown content and unknown boxes are filtered and/or ignored. But we still can see some unexpected behavior in conjunction with unsupported boxes and content. Therefore we strongly recommend avoiding this constellation.

Rules of thumb: It is not possible to list every kind and combination of the boxes and contents supported by censhare. Here are some rules of thumb:

  • boxes in groups are supported if the outermost group is placed on the spread and not in an anchored box

  • anchored boxes are also supported in stories of anchored text boxes

  • boxes or groups as content of boxes are not supported (frame in frame - in general images show up as lowres).

For more information, see this About frame in frame.

  • pictures as content of boxes are only supported if they have a box in which they are placed

  • TextOnpath and boxes which are anchored in it are not supported until PlugIn 2.8.29
