censhare Product information management (PIM) supports the Global Product Classification (GPC) of the Global Standards One (GS1) organization. You can add a translation to an existing GPC/GS1 classification.

Legal note

GS1 is a global standard for business communication that is developed and maintained by the GS1 organization. Customers of censhare who have licensed the censhare Product Information Management system (PIM) as of version 2018.3 are able to import a specific GS1 classification schema to create respective asset structures in the censhare software. Notwithstanding the above, please note that for all GS1 services the terms and conditions including fees of the GS1 organization apply. censhare does not have any influence nor control on GS1 terms and conditions and/or services and shall therefore not be  held responsible.

Context

censhare Product information management (PIM) supports GPC/GS1 product classifications. As an administrator, you can import a product classification file in different languages into censhare. The import is done in the censhare Client or the censhare Admin-Client.

Prerequisites

Before you add a translation, you must import a master product classification into censhare, in order to create the Product category, Feature and Feature item assets with English master data.

Introduction

The GS1/GPC product classifications are available in various languages. censhare uses English as the master language. The English version of a GS1/GPC has to be imported before you can add other languages. When you import a new language, censhare recognizes if a GS1/GPC classification already exists and adds the new language to the existing product category assets and feature assets.

Optionally, you can also update the Feature names and descriptions in the censhare Master data table.

A GPC data import does not import product data. No products or product items are added to your PIM system.

Add a new language to a GPC classification

To add a new language to a product classification, perform an "Import GPC data" server action:

  1. Before you start the import into censhare, download the GPC product classification from https://www.gs1.org/standards/gpc/access-gpc-standards and unpack the ZIP archive. For the import, you need the XML file that contains the complete classification from this folder. Do not use the "Delta" file. Make sure that you download the correct version.

  2. Open the censhare Client or the censhare Admin-Client. Depending on your system configuration, the GPC import is available in both or only in one of the clients. The import is identical in both clients.

  3. Open the "Server actions" menu and select the "Import GPC data" menu item:

    Opens the "Server actions" menu

  4. Select the XML file in the file browser window and confirm your selection. The dialog window shows the following message:

"You are importing a product classification that already exists in your system: GPC - {name-of-classification}. If the imported file contains a new language or locale of this classification, select the content language before you proceed. If you also want to use the imported data to localize the UI keys of the master data, select the field "Localized master data" and select a user interface language."

  5. Select the language of the imported classification from the "Content language" list.

  6. If you want to update the names and descriptions of the master data, activate the "Localized master data" checkbox and select a language from the "User interface language" list.

Note: The user interface language should be the same as the selected content language. If the language of the imported classification file is not in the "User interface language" list, disable the "Localized master data" option.

  7. To confirm and start the import, click OK.

    • If you execute the import in the censhare Client, censhare shows a progress bar at the bottom of the client window.

    • If you execute the import in the censhare Admin-Client, censhare shows a dialog window with the progress.

  8. When the import is finished, a dialog window shows a short report of the imported items and if any errors were encountered:

    • Bricks [number of items]

    • Segments [number of items]

    • Classes [number of items]

    • Families [number of items]

    • Attribute types [number of items]

    • Attribute values [number of items]

The import of a translation of an existing classification does not create any new assets. censhare adds asset data to the existing assets and - if selected - master data to the existing features.

  9. Click OK or CANCEL to close the window.

  10. To check the assets that were created during the import, open the "Last created" page.

  11. The page shows the assets that were created and their respective asset type and GPC category:

    • Product category, Brick

    • Product category, Segment

    • Product category, Class

    • Product category, Family

    • Feature

    • Feature item

With an import, censhare also creates Value list assets. These assets do not appear in the Product table or in Product properties. They are necessary for the configuration of dynamic value lists. Do not delete them!

The GPC categories "Segment", "Class", Family" and "Brick" are mapped to the "Product category" asset type. In the Product categories, censhare adds a reference to an Asset category that identifies the GPC category (Segment, Brick, Class, Family).

Result

The translated categories and features of the product classification are available in censhare PIM.

Troubleshooting

An import can fail due to the following reasons:

Error

Reason

Solution

Unable to import file. The file cannot be converted to XML

You selected the wrong source file from the GPC classification folder.

Repeat the import and make sure to select the XML classification file.

Wrong XML structure. Node: gpc:gs1 schema was not found.

You selected the "Delta" file from the GPC classification folder.

Repeat the import and make sure to select the XML classification file, that does not contain the "Delta" in its file name.

Processing was stopped, because this product classification already exists in the system.

You or another user imported this classification already.

This error does not require any action.

Next steps
