Let censhare find duplicate files to avoid identical content in your domain or sub-domains.

Introduction

censhare can perform a duplicate check when you upload files via drag-&-drop or the Create asset dialogs. The files are checked for identical content. You can decide whether you want to upload the files.

Activate duplicate check

By default, the duplicate check is not activated. To activate the duplicate check:

  1. Open the user menu from the Actions menu
  2. Select "Preferences" to open your personal settings.
  3. Activate Show duplicate dialog for identical files.

Each time you upload a file, censhare checks for duplicates.

Display duplicates

The result of a duplicate check displays before a new asset is created. During the upload process, the "Status" column shows you the progress of the check for each of the files and then the result: "Duplicate found" or "No duplicate found".

If censhare detects a duplicate, it displays the according asset. censhare will always check the current files of the assets only. censhare does not take into account the older versions of an asset master file. Any duplicate that might exist there will not be detected nor displayed.

Select for each detected duplicate if you want to create a new asset or use the duplicate instead. censhare will also show the dialog if it does not find any duplicate for the files to upload. You can open the assets found in an asset page, edit it and go back to the dialog after that.

  • Choose to discard the upload if you want to use the existing asset.
  • Choose the file to be uploaded to create a new asset.
  • If censhare detects duplicates for several files use the "Select all" button in order to select for all duplicates at once to use the existing asset or create a new one.

Click UPLOAD to start the upload of the files. After that, censhare moves the asset to the "Last created" asset list. There, you see the upload status for each file until the process is completed.

Click CANCEL to exit the dialog.

censhare only performs a duplicate when you upload a file in order to create a new asset. When you upload a new master file in the "Files" widget on an asset page, censhare replaces the master file without a duplicate check and does not create a new asset.

For the duplicate check, censhare will create a hash code (using SHA1) for each file to upload. censhare compares this hash code with the hash codes of the master files of the existing assets. censhare only checks the current version of the files assets only. Any duplicate that might exist in an older content version will not be detected and displayed.
